Sri City, October 6, 2017: – Sri City has been awarded Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) prestigious Green City ‘Gold’ rating in recognition of its excellence at national level. Sri City thus becomes one of the first few greenfield cities in the country to achieve the IGBC green city rating. At the IGBC’s Green Building Congress-2017 held in Jaipur on Thursday evening, Mr. Satish Kamat, President (Operations), Sri City received the ratings certificate and the scroll of honour in the presence of Mr. Prem C. Jain, Chairman, IGBC, Mr. Tai Lee Siang, Chairman of World Green Building Council, Mr. R. Mutyala Raju, IAS, District Collector, Nellore and other dignitaries of Global and Indian Industry.
Expressing happiness on the unique achievement, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City said,“This is indeed a proud moment for us, and IGBC recognition reiterates our commitment for setting up sustainable eco-systems and new urbanism, with a focus on ‘walk to work’ concept. Sri City has already embarked on this path in providing a ‘clean, green, breathe-easy’ industrial-urban agglomeration, built on the dictum of ‘work, live, learn and play,’ right from the design stage.”
In the same ceremony, Mr. Mutyala Raju received the IGBC ‘Gold rating’, which was awarded for Nellore district in recognition of the development works at Puttamraju Kandrika village. It may be recalled that the village was adopted by the cricket legend Mr. Sachin Tendulkar.
With a total footprint of over 7500+ acres area, Sri City, an integrated Business City, is one of the first few greenfield cities in the country to achieve the IGBC’s Green City Gold rating. it has been selected based on the credit points achieved in IGBC Green Cities rating criteria pertaining to eco-vision, land use planning and built environment, health, water, energy, infrastructure management, sustainable urbanisation planning, etc.,
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was formed in the year 2001. The vision of the council is, to enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in the sustainable built environment by 2025. IGBC Green Cities’ rating system is the first of its kind rating in India to address environmental sustainability in emerging cities.
