Sri City, January 11, 2025: The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Sri City, an Institute of National Importance, celebrated its 2024 batch Convocation on Saturday. A total of 298 degrees were conferred during the event by Prof. M.V. Karthikeyan, Director (Additional Charge). Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Chairperson of IIIT Sri City and Founder & CEO of Zoho Corporation Pvt. Ltd., virtually presided over the convocation, while Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, participated online as the Chief Guest. The distinguished gathering included IIIT’s senate members, Mr. C. Sriniraju, Chairman of Sri City, Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Managing Director of Sri City, Mr. Bhuvan Anandakrishnan, Vice President of Caterpillar Technology, and Ms. Shalini Kapoor, Chief Technologist at AWS India, among others.
The event commenced with Prof. Karthikeyan presenting the institute’s Annual Report for 2023-24, highlighting achievements in academics, research, and sports. He lauded the institute’s initiatives, such as hackathons, workshops, and the winter school, which featured contributions from eminent academicians and industry leaders from India, Australia, Japan, the UK, and the USA. Prof. Karthikeyan emphasised institution’s commitment to nurturing technical excellence and equipping students with skills to contribute meaningfully to the engineering and technology landscape. He also noted the ongoing campus infrastructure development aimed at supporting the institute’s future growth.
Addressing the graduates, Dr. Sridhar Vembu congratulated them and urged them to transition from learners to contributors, emphasising their responsibility to serve their organisations, communities, and the nation. He encouraged them to align their efforts with long-term national goals such as ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ and the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDGs) of United Nations.
Dr. S. Somanath urged graduates to focus on six success traits: Passion, Commitment, Excellence, Determination, Focus, and Learnability, while emphasising the importance of Humility, Honesty, and Integrity. He stressed that technology is key to solving India’s challenges like poverty and security. In the new world order, technological mastery defines global power. He encouraged graduates to lead India’s rise as a peaceful, tech-driven nation and expressed hope for future collaboration between IIIT Sri City and ISRO, including a joint research center.
The degree awardees included 5 PhDs, 2 M.S, 2 M.Tech., and 289 B.Tech., students specialising in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). Mr. M. Mohan Sai Krishna in computer Science and Ms. Dacharla Sreeja in Electronics and Communications won the gold medals in B.Tech.,
Graduates engaged with faculty mentors and participated in a formal Alumni Meet. The ceremony evoked a sense of nostalgia among the graduates, who reunited with their friends and juniors while reflecting on their journey at the institute.
