Sri City, October 4, 2023: A session on ‘Green & Sustainable practices and way to achieve net-zero’ was held under joint aegis of The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Sri City on Wednesday in Sri City. The Key focused areas of the conclave included sustainable practices, roadmap to achieve Net-Zero, Green Building Congress-2023, etc.,
Mr. Satish Kamat, President, Sri City highlighted the integrated business city’s commitment to sustainability in providing space solutions for industrial enterprises and social infrastructure, aiming to achieve holistic growth and optimal outcomes, while also ensuring environmental protection and corporate functionality.
Mr. Ajit Chordia, Chairman, IGBC-Chennai Chapter and Managing Director, Olympia Group India, appreciated Sri City’s sustainability initiatives and the various industrial units present there, saying that to be classified as a net-zero company – a company or organisation must incorporate environmentally friendly practices that do not actively increase the rate of carbon emissions produced. To be net-zero, a company must offset all of its emissions to the point that it emits no greenhouse gases or carbon emissions at all – hence the name ‘net zero’.
Mr. M. Anand, Deputy Executive Director, CIl – IGBC, presented a virtual lecture on Green & Sustainable Practices and the Path to NetZero. He highlighted the IGBC’s grading systems for Net Zero Energy, Water, and Waste to Landfill to accelerate the adoption of Net Zero ideas. By citing a few cases studies, he emphasised the long-term commitment to reaching net-zero emissions, which requires speeding up renewable energy deployment, improving energy efficiency, developing carbon capture technologies, and transforming industrial processes.
Mr Anand invited all attendees to attend the Green Building Congress and Expo, a jointly sponsored event by IGBC, World Green Building Council, G20, B20, and CII, which would be held in Chennai from 23-25 November.
Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City, in a message expressed his best wishes for the conclave’s success and highlighted Sri city’s eco-friendly policies that are aimed at improving quality of life, fostering socioeconomic growth, and protecting the environment, all in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) . “Sri City’s commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral city positions it as a leading destination in India for working and living,” he added.
Dr. Venkateswaran, General Manager, Sri City gave concluding remarks, and thanked the IGBC, CII and the speakers for organising such a informative session on current topic of interest to the country.
The participants actively interacted with the speakers and sought clarification on different aspects. The session was attended by about 60 executives representing some of the industrial units.
