Sri City, February 14, 2020:- Toray Industries (India) Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Toray Industries, Inc., a Japanese major producing key materials, hosted plant inauguration ceremony in Sri City. Mr. Mekapati Goutham Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Industries, Commerce, IT, Skill Development and Training, AP Government unveiled the plaque marking the unit entering into operational phase, in the presence of Mr. Kojiro Uchiyama, Consul General of Japan in Chennai, Mr. Mitsuo Ohya, Sr. Vice President & General Manager of Toray’s Fibres and Textiles Division, Mr. Shigekazu Suenaga, Managing Director, Toray Industries (India) Private Limited, Mr. B. Durga Prasad, Member of Parliament, Mr. K. Adimulam and K. Sanjeevaiah, MLAs, Mr. Ravi Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City and a host of other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Mekapati Goutham Reddy thanked the Toray Management for preferring Andhra Pradesh to set up the unit and assured all support from government. Because of ease of business in the state and industry friendliness of government, he said that several Japanese companies are preferring AP, particularly Sri City, as second home. ‘For expediting speedy process and clearance, soon we will introduce a special desk for Japanese investors’, he added. He said that Government is very keen to develop quality workforce by opening skill development university and colleges in every parliamentary constituency. He appreciated the Sri City management for undertaking the task of training the local people from agrarian background, and transforming them as blue-coloured workforce. “Their vision in this direction ushered in economic development in the region and minimised migrations in search of livelihood’, the minister added.
Responding to the request of Sri City MD for announcing the new industrial policy from Sri City, Mr. Goutham Reddy said,”We will take up your request with the Chief Minister for consideration.
Mr. Kojiro Uchiyama said that Toray’s presence will make a significant impact on Indian market with its innovative products.
Mr. Mitsuo Ohya said,“Today is a historic day for Toray Industries as we have commissioned a world class plant in Andhra Pradesh. I convey our gratitude to the Government of AP and Sri City for extending excellent support and assistance for the speedy commissioning of the unit.”
Welcoming the chief guest and other invitees Mr. Shigekazu Suenaga traced the development of their activity in India since 2011, and gave a pictorial presentation on plant construction.
Thanking the Minister for visiting Sri City for the first time, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy congratulated the dynamic Chief Minister of AP and Industries Minister for going ahead with the slogan of ‘Let’s grow together’ in industrial development. Appreciating the efforts being initiated to introduce new industrial policy for promote Andhra Pradesh as an attractive and competitive destination for industrial investments, he expressed confidence that the industrial landscape will undergo a major transformation. He appealed to the Minister that it will be very apt to announce the new policy from Sr City.
Toray is the 20th Japanese company in Sri City, progressing into operational phase, while five more companies from that country are in the construction phase. The unit, which was built on a plot of 85 acre at an initial investment of around Rs. 1000 crores, has two State-of-the-Art manufacturing plants, viz., PolyPropylene (PP) Spun bond plant and Engineering Plastics Resin Compounding plant, an Environment Treatment Plant, Power/Utilities, Administration Building, Canteen, etc., The PP Spun bond plant that produces meditech technical textile material will start commercial production in March 2020 with a production capacity of 18,000 Million Tonnes Per Annum. These products are used in diapers and sanitary napkins production industries, such as Unicharm, which take advantage of the material’s combination of excellent wicking, softness, high uniformity and light weight. The products made at the Engineered Plastics Resins plant are used as raw materials for making automobile electrical components and also electrical and electronic connectors. Its production capacity is 4800 Million Tonnes Per Annum. The plants will supply their products to both Indian Market and Export Market.
Both plants put together will initially generate livelihood for over 400 people, and this number will go up during subsequent phases.
