Sri City, November 23, 2023 – Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd., Japan, inaugurated its greenfield unit in Sri City on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Masanori Togawa, CEO & President of Daikin Industries Limited, Japan, and Mr. Kanwaljeet Jawa, Chairman & Managing Director of Daikin India. Dignitaries included Mr. Masayuki Taga, Consul-General, Ms. Nivruti Rai, Managing Director & CEO of Invest India, Mr. Sujan Chinoy, Director General MP–IDSA & Former Indian Ambassador to Japan, and Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director of Sri City.
Mr. Kanwaljeet Jawa welcomed the guests and highlighted that the new plant enhances Daikin’s production capabilities, strengthens its position in energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions, and supports long-term partnerships. He noted Daikin’s role as a primary investor in the government’s Production Linked Incentive scheme, championing domestic air conditioner manufacturing.
Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy praised Daikin’s commitment to India’s Atmanirbhar strategy and ‘Make in India’ initiative, noting that Sri City is now considered the ‘cool capital’ of India due to its favorable ecosystem for the white-goods sector and the presence of major AC brands. He emphasized Daikin’s focus on skill development and its positive impact on both the company and the community.
Mr. Masanori Togawa remarked on Daikin’s global presence with 100 production units and a customer base in 170 countries. He stated that the new facility will elevate HVAC solutions and contribute to industry growth in India and surrounding regions. Ms. Nivruti Rai expressed satisfaction with India’s status as a top investment destination, predicting significant growth in the AC business by 2030 and praising Sri City as an ideal location for investors.
Mr. Masayuki Taga praised the support from the AP and Central Government and highlighted Sri City’s world-class infrastructure as a viable investment destination. Mr. Sujan Chinoy emphasized the strong cultural and commercial ties between Japan and India, and the significant presence of Japanese companies in all manufacturing sectors. Mr. D. Balamurugan, IAS, Joint Secretary of DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GOI, and other officials were also present.
The new plant, covering 75.5 acres and employing 3,000 people, reaffirms Daikin’s commitment to excellence and innovation. It aims to meet the growing demand for advanced air conditioning products both domestically and internationally. The facility is dedicated to developing climate-friendly solutions and aligns with Daikin’s aspiration to achieve Net Zero CO2 emissions by 2050. It will cater to markets in West Africa, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Middle East, South America, and East Africa.
