Sri City, July 29, 2016:- Inline with ‘Vanam-Manam’, a massive plantation drive launched by Government of Andhra Pradesh to increase green cover in the state, Sri City conducted a tree plantation programme on Friday. With a motto to turn Sri City into a ‘green city’, the Landscaping division of Sri City organised a drive of planting 10000 plants during the ‘day’ throughout the industrial park, with the active participation of school children, staff of different
industrial units and other employees.
Mr. Narendra Babu, Regional Environment Engineer, Pollution Control Board, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Tirupati was the chief guest of the plantation event. Mr. Kishore, Environment Engineer, also took part in the function. Mr. Satish Kamath, President (Works) extended a warm welcome to the guests.
Briefing about the ‘Vanam-Manam’ programme, Mr. Narendra Babu said, “Through this programme AP government aims to improve the green cover in the State to 50 per cent by 2029 from the present 26 per cent. I am very happy to note that all the units of Sri City took up this drive very seriously, and I compliment Sri City for its ‘mission-mode’ approach of developing green belt in and around the industrial park”.
The intent of the massive plantation drive, that will go-on for three months is to educate all the stakeholders and propagate the need for greenery development and maintenance of ecofriendly atmosphere in Sri City region. During this period, around one lakh saplings are targeted to be planted in and around Sri City.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. P. Madhu, Head, Landscaping division of Sri City.
