LG Electronics Commences Construction of New Manufacturing Facility at Sri City

Sri City, May 8, 2025: LG Electronics India Ltd. (LGEIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, marked a significant milestone today with the groundbreaking ceremony for its upcoming manufacturing unit at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The facility will be LG’s third production unit in India and is being developed with an investment outlay of ₹5,001 crore (approx. US$600 million).

The ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Real Time Governance, and Human Resources Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Nara Lokesh, who led the event. Distinguished guests included H.E. Mr. Lee Seong-ho, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, Mr. Jaecheol Lyu, CEO, Home Solution, LG Electronics Inc., Korea, Mr. Jae Sung Lee, CEO, Eco Solution, LG Electronics Inc., Korea, and Mr. Hong Ju Jeon, Managing Director of LG Electronics India.

Mr. Srini Raju, Chairman, Sri City, and Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Managing Director, Sri City extended a warm welcome to the Hon’ble Minister, senior leadership of LG, distinguished guests from the state government. They expressed their pleasure in facilitating LG’s landmark investment and reaffirmed Sri City’s commitment to fostering global partnerships.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jaecheol Lyu remarked, “Sri City marks a pivotal milestone in LG’s expansion in India. This new plant will enable us to enhance localisation, optimise delivery timelines, and bring cutting-edge LG products closer to Indian consumers. We deeply appreciate the forward-thinking support extended by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.”

Speaking at the event, Mr. Lokesh lauded LG’s decision to invest in Andhra Pradesh and highlighted Sri City’s conducive ecosystem—its world-class infrastructure, strategic location, and skilled talent pool. Acknowledging the vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, he emphasised that LG’s presence would catalyse growth in exports, job creation, and attract ancillary industries. Describing it as a ‘smart factory’ in a ‘smart city’, within a ‘smart state’ and in a ‘forward-looking’ Nation, he proposed the creation of an ‘LG City’ inside Sri City and assured unwavering government support, including initiatives to elevate Tirupati Airport to international standards.

The Ambassador welcomed the investment as a symbol of deepening India-Korea economic relations. He expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh, under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, would attract further Korean investments, reinforcing the already strong presence of over 600 Korean companies in India.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has allotted 247 acres to LGEIL at Sri City for the new plant, which is expected to generate approximately 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during initial phase. Spanning 1 million square meters, with a built-up area of 2,20,000 square meters, the plant is expected to anchor a robust ecosystem for white goods manufacturing in the region.

Upon full commissioning, the facility will manufacture 800,000 refrigerators, 850,000 washing machines, 1.5 million air conditioners, and 2 million AC compressors annually. Production will begin with air conditioners in 2026, followed by phased additions through 2029. The plant will enhance LG’s presence in South India and accelerate product availability nationwide.
